4 Generations

of history & evolution

The start

Christos Christou, founder of Christou 1910, was born and spent his childhood in Polichnitos, Lesbos. In 1910, he moved to Athens and became a pharmacist (a "pharmakotryftis" as they were called then). He created "TO ETHNIKON" and, recruiting the most skilled technicians from Italy, transformed it into a state-of-the-art orthopaedic goods manufacturing workshop for its time. The workshop produced a plethora of medical products, many of which were patented in Greece and abroad.

1910

One of the pharmacy's most renowned products is the hernia belts. Those suffering from hernias can now avoid operations, which were particularly painful at the time, by wearing these special belts that relieve pain and reduce the size of the hernias.

1932

The first major awards at international exhibitions abroad soon follow. The dressing products win a patent award at one of the most important international exhibitions in Milan.

1944

Reality puts a halt to Christos Christou's ambitious plan. The workshop adjusts its production to meet the terrifying needs of World War II. The demand for gauze & bandages reaches 1.5 million tons daily. The pharmacy is completely destroyed and just 4 years later, its founder passes away.

Every end, a beginning.

The founder's sons are now taking over, led by Alexandros Christou. He expands the product range with orthopedic items, compression stockings, and optical products. He continues imports from abroad, mainly from Italy. Soon, the company becomes one of the most profitable of its time. The company's name becomes widely known throughout Greece. Even during the Occupation, you can see advertisements for the pharmacy on walls, main streets of Athens, and even remote provincial towns across the country.

1966

A monopoly collaboration is secured with the German anatomy house SOMSO. The company imports anatomical models, charts and works, nursing educational dolls and models, and supplies every university classroom and medical laboratory in the country.

1975

Always a pioneer, "Christou" is introducing specialized blood pressure monitors for the first time.

Modernization

Christos Christou is now taking over the reins, carrying not only the name but also the entrepreneurial spirit of his grandfather. Having been involved in the business since the age of 15, he possesses a complete understanding of the field, both technically and commercially. Alongside domestic production, Christos Christou imports high-quality products from all corners of the world. He closely monitors demand trends and adjusts orders to the pulse of the market. Tireless and hardworking, he is steadily expanding his clientele. The customer is at the heart of his philosophy and actions.

80'- 90'

Realizing the importance of visually showcasing products, he invests in innovative decoration and presentation of the display windows. The store is, and now appears, exceptionally well-stocked.

1990

Christos Christou is fully dedicated to the business. Days off and holidays are unknown words to him... With a noble purpose and hard work, he maintains a loyal customer base. Each product is intended and created according to the specific needs of the patients.

Today

As tradition dictates, the family nature of the business continues, now passing into the hands of Alexandra Christou and her husband Dimitris Hatzikokkinos. With deep knowledge of the field, they come to continue their family's vision and develop it, like every generation, one step further. Alexandra and Dimitris introduce a new approach that aims to combine design with functionality, a holistic approach with know-how and science, tradition with modern needs.

2017

Modern lifestyles dictate a frantic pace. Christou 1910 aims for easy and immediate product availability, offering aesthetic and quality health solutions to the general public.

Aesthetics take center stage. Christou 1910 collaborates with the most acclaimed creators from the domestic and international scene and launches its first collection. Ioannis Solomozis undertakes the pattern design and Elise Gravel adds color to the children's insoles.

Nature and anatomy: A holistic approach!
The company innovates by introducing the science of clinical aromatherapy into finger aids. Medical-grade essential oils permeate the aids, providing multi-layered care and protection.
