Valentine's Day: First, self-love!

[quote]To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance. Oscar Wilde[/quote] Valentine's Day often causes annoyance and awkwardness among singles and non-singles alike due to the forced display of a romantic life, a contrived testament to happiness with a commercial flavor. Perhaps, instead of simply being annoyed, we can make it work for us! How? On the day we love to hate, let's learn to love ourselves a little more, unconditionally, and take care of ourselves! All this may sound trite and cliché, but if we set aside the hearts and lovebirds, perhaps we can find some meaning. And we don't mean simple narcissistic self-worship in the mirror, but a more substantial process of self-discovery that starts with simple, everyday actions. [big]Valentine's Day is supposed to flood us with feelings of tenderness and love. So, let's ask ourselves, when was the last time we showed ourselves leniency? When did we think of one or two encouraging words to overcome a difficult moment? We always have a harsh reprimand ready in the back of our minds for that dietary transgression that shows on our scale, for our procrastination, for our inability to meet a perfect stereotype.[/big] Self-criticism, unfortunately, is the rule and not the exception. So let's take the "saccharine" occasion of Valentine's Day, for many, to address ourselves with more kindness, compassion, and goodness, setting aside the artificial criteria we don't meet! We are enough just as we are! And we deserve the appreciation and respect of our fellow human beings. All of us have something unique, and no matter how strange, quirky, and imperfect we believe ourselves to be, precisely for that reason, we are unique! Start Valentine's Day with a practice of self-love, fill yourself with a great affirmation and acceptance of yourself! And that's because you can never give others what you don't have. If you want to give love to someone else who truly matters to you, you must first equip yourself with a lot of love and strength for yourself.   [caption id="attachment_4704" align="alignnone" width="324"] image credits: pinterest.com[/caption]   Waking up in the morning, the first thing you should think about is a positive aspect of your character that you truly believe in. If when you look in the mirror you only focus on imperfections, then remember your greatest asset, your gaze, your smile, your hair, your walk, something that no one can imitate! Find a personal mantra that inspires you and keep it as an inner talisman for every time something brings you down psychologically!   [caption id="attachment_4672" align="aligncenter" width="320"]valentine's day tips image credits: fitscene.us[/caption]   Keep a small notebook with personal thoughts and daily reflections. By putting your words on paper, you will pause and think. Is your inner voice an ally or an enemy? If the answer is the latter, then you will need to address this predisposition. You might say it's simply a sign of perfectionism, but cumulatively you are constantly putting obstacles in the way of your self-esteem. We must not forget that we are a "work in progress," constantly learning and finding ways to evolve and shed mistaken beliefs and behaviors. So relax and accept the challenges without once again being hard on yourself! Find time to improve what bothers you, choosing some beneficial outlet to relieve stress and strengthen your body. Yoga, walking, running, dancing, any form of movement will fill you with grace, energy, and more confidence in your image! It is important that we ourselves give meaning to our lives, find quality time for ourselves, discover and enjoy what truly gives us pleasure. A walk, a book, inspiring music, that new movie no one else is interested in seeing, can be a moment to have a good time even alone, simply because we did something we enjoy. It is not selfish to prioritize your personal balance. Learn anew to make your heart beat with childlike enthusiasm for the small things that make you happy.   By building your best self, by forming your most genuine smile, you will find the essence of things and learn to seek what offers fulfillment for you and through a relationship. However, we must always remember to work on ourselves to be independently happy, complete, and healthy!
